Course Objective
The aims of the course are to provide students with recent developments on seismic design philosophies in USA, Japan, and Europe, the basic knowledge about analysis methods, with emphasis on nonlinear analysis methods, the basics of pushover analysis and necessary information to be able to perform pushover analysis and the knowledge to fully understand SDOF representation (known as “equivalent” SDOF) of MDOF systems.
Course Content
Introduction to Performance Based Structural Engineering, Fundamentals and performance expectations, 2007 Turkish Earthquake Code, performance objectives, performance levels, and earthquake hazard definitions in current international provisions, response of “equivalent” SDOF systems, displacement estimates with performance based approaches, performance evaluation of existing structures, state of art in performance based engineering .
