Course Objective
To give the students detailed information on river hydraulics. To teach the physical properties and equations of rivers, river basins, steady and unsteady river flows and river models.
Course Content
Scope of River Engineering, Classification and use of rivers, Hydraulic characteristics of alluvial rivers, Classification of river flow, Steady nonuniform flow, Hydraulic routing (St. Venant equations), Finite difference solutions to complete dynamic wave equations, Simplified models (diffusive wave, kinematic wave), Hydrologic routing, Reservoir routing (Euler and Runge-Kutta methods), Channel Routing (Muskingum method, Muskingum-Cunge method), Morphological characteristics of rivers, One-dimensional morphologic computations (quasi-steady model), Analytical models (Parabolic, hyperbolic, simple wave models), Numerical model, River stabilization/improvement, Bank and bed protection facilities .
