Course Objective
The aim of this course is to introduce metallography techniques, to learn sample preparation methods and stages, to introduce microscopes and their parts, to learn microscopic examination methods, to define microstructures of materials used in engineering applications.
Course Content
In this context, introduction to crystal structures in metals, physical metallurgy concepts in the interpretation of microstructures, metallographic sectioning, sample preparation and molding, mechanical sanding and polishing, chemical and electrolytic polishing, contrast enhancement and etching, light and electron microscopy, digital imaging, quantitative image analysis, information on three-dimensional microscopy, field metallography techniques, colored metallography, metallography and microstructures of iron-based alloys, metallography and microstructures of non-ferrous alloys, metallography and microstructures of ceramic and composite materials are given.
