Course Objective Examination of mass media, their relationship with social systems and culture, and their effects.
Course Content Basic concepts: culture, mass society and mass communication; communication and cultural bond; concepts of folk culture, popular culture, consumer culture, mass culture; Gerbner Cultivation Theory; Hofstede's cultural dimensions and communication; the relationship between globalization, media and culture: (Mc Luhan) Global Village; Culture Industry: Media and Cultural imperialism (Adorno and Horkheimer); cultural hegemony and representation.
