Examination of liberal-pluralist theories and models developed in the field of communication and media studies
Course Content
Communication and media studies, mass media and communication theories concepts; Early communication studies (Lewin, Hovland, Laswell, Lazarsfeld's early studies, Shannon and Weaver) Two steps communication flow, opinion leaders and limited impact studies (Katz and Lazarsfeld) Cultural Indicators and cultivation thesis (Gerbner, Morgan and Signorielli) Agenda Setting and Spiral of Silence theories (McCombs, Shaw, and Noelle-Neumann) Uses and Gratifications theory (Blumler, Herzog, Katz, McQuail) “medium is the message” and “global village” theses (Innis and McLuhan).
