COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this course is to examine the relationship between the environment and literature in terms of ecocriticism, to master the interdisciplinary studies in the field of environmental humanities in recent years, and to present to the students that it is possible to look at life from a non-anthropocentric perspective.
Course Content First, a brief history and phases of ecocriticism are discussed. Then, recent studies in the field of environmental humanities are reviewed, and the difference between anthropocentric and ecocentric perspectives is revealed. Apart from this, the debates about what the Anthropocene has brought and taken away are examined.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1The student inserts an interdisciplinary working method and understands the changing and developing theories of ecocriticism.
2The student comprehends the importance of interaction between environment and literature in selected works from English literature.
3The student is able to differentiate between eco-centric and anthropocentric perspectives. The student recognizes posthumanism and its approaches.
