Course Objective Introduction to pharmacology, drug metabolism and the most commonly used drugs in dentistry.
Course Content Introduction to Pharmacology, Clinical Pharmacology, Absorption and Distribution of Drugs. Metabolism and Disposal of Drugs. Pharmaceutical Forms of Drugs and Drug Administration, Pharmacodynamic and Pharmacokinetic Drug Interactions. Dose-Concentration-Effect Relationship, Receptors, Drug-Receptor Relationship, Mechanisms of Drugs. Factors affecting the effect of drugs, Pharmacogenetics, toxic effects of drugs and hypersensitivity reactions. Antimicrobial Chemotherapeutics, General Properties and Mechanisms of Action. Antibiotic Drugs Used in Dentistry. Antiviral Drugs and Antifungal Drugs Used in Dentistry. Narcotic Analgesics and Non-Steroidal Antiinflammatory Drugs. Antidiabetic Drugs, Drugs Used in the Treatment of Thyroid Diseases. The Effects of Corticosteroids, Corticosteroids and Corticosteroid Treatment on Dentistry. Respiratory System Drugs, Antihistaminic Drugs, Digestive System Drugs. Cardiovascular System Drugs, Antihypertensive Drugs, Antianemic Drugs, Antiplatelet Drugs, Anticoagulants and Hemostatic Drugs. Nervous System Pharmacology, Anesthetic Drugs. Prescription, Pharmacovigilance and Rational Drug Use.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Evaluate the basic subjects of pharmacology. Define pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of drugs.
2Explain pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of central, autonomic, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory and digestive system drugs, discuss side effects profiles, contraindications and drug interactions.
