COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective To provide dentistry students basic information about issues required in future while performing their profession such as professional ethics, patient rights, physician rights and patient-physician relationship and to help them in gaining healthy behaviour.
Course Content Medicine and Dentistry, Introduction of Medical Profession, Description of Ethics and Types, Concept of Ethics and Approaches, Ethical Fundamentals, Utility and Malpractice, Honesty, Justice, Respect to Privacy, Independence, Autonomy, Maltreatment and Respect to Living, Right Concept and Human Rights, From Human Rights to Patient Rights, Patient Rights in Turkey, Physician Rights, Dentist-Patient Relationships, Communication with Patients.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Have knowledge regarding the medical ethic concept, ethical decision processes and problems encountered during processes and develop decision making skills on exemplary cases.
2Learn the fundamentals of basic medical ethic, their place at professional practice, rationales and consequences.
3Have knowledge with respect to medical profession, the introduction and history of medical profession.
4Describe the rights and human rights concepts as well as patient rights and have knowledge about the rationales of patient rights, history and current national and international status.
5Gather information regarding international literature, conventions and procedures in terms of patient rights.
6Learn the models of patient-physician relationship, explicate the problems and causes as well as information and skills with respect to solutions of the problems and correct communication techniques.
7Learn the role, authorization and responsibilities of physicians
8Learn the physician rights and their legal basis.
