COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Level	Bachelor's Degree
Course Type	Compulsory
Course Objective	The students are expected to learn, explain and use the language having apprehended the place and importance in individual and society life; structure and type, use and discourse of words; spelling and punctuation; effective use of principles of written language; parts of grammar; importance of correct expressions; planned writing and speaking; effective writing and speaking; text analysis and synthesis.
Course Content	Language and culture, world languages, alphabets of Turks in history, historical stages of Turkish language, current status of Turkish language, phonetics, syntax, word types: nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, transitions, exclamations, spelling and punctuation. Word groups, sentences and types, sentence analysis, avoiding fragments, written language, essay organization, paragraph, text analysis, deductive texts, and literature types. Rules of academic writing, essays, methods of note taking and summarization, basics of verbal speech, importance of language in effective communication, dictation, body language, features of a good speaker, speech types, planned speeches, unplanned speeches, presentation skills, correcting language mistakes, rhetoric.

1	Explains the place and importance of language in individual’s and society life; relates the concepts of language, culture and nation; uses the language effectively.
2	Employs the information of history of Turkish in social and professional domains.
3	Explains phonetics, types, use and structure of words and sentence types; employs this information for effective communication and foreign language learning.
4	Experiences planned writing and speaking.
5	Explains and employs successful writing, importance of language in writing, spelling, punctuation and rules.
6	Employs necessary language for formal writing, planned or unplanned speech.
7	Applies scientific research methods; uses correct language during meetings and seminars.
8	Differentiates text analysis methods; analyzes and synthesizes when needed.
9	Completes any information and exercise of written and oral university level language.
10	Follows language developments; contributes to the development in different field of science.
