COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective 1. The aim of this course is to introduce students to fundamental concepts of science and sociology. 2. To provide the students with conceptual knowledge about the definition, subject matter and research methods of sociology and its relationships with other social sciences to gain information about individuals, society, social structure, and social change. 3. To teach students how to evaluate universal social facts and events based on systematic knowledge and skills.
Course Content Sosciology as a social science. The definiton, field and borders of sociology. The research method in sociology. Individual and society. Social structure, social status, social role and stratification. Family as a social institution. Education as a social ınstitution. Social behavior patterns. Social mobility and social change. Information society. Culture and civilization. Ethnic culture as a social fact. Violence as a social fact.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To distinguish the factors that play a role in the emergence of sociology.
2To explain the methodology of sociology within social sciences.
3To explain the topics of the individual, society, social structure and social change based on theoretical and practical knowledge.
4To list initial factors and mechanisms of social change.
5To analyze objectively the social structure of Turkish society.
6To deal with national and global social issues based on a critical perspective.
7To recommend appropriate solutions to national and global social problems.
8To evaluate national and global social events based on systematic knowledge and skills.
9To present their acquired knowledge effectively in the face of the community.
10To do group work after gaining knowledge and skills of social responsibility.
