Course Objective It is difficult to claim that in our contemporary media order, the entire act of communication is shaped in accordance with ethical expectations and on the basis of rational persuasiveness. The fact that concepts such as the manipulative aspect of communication, deception, fraud and disinformation are frequently used in the field also confirms the necessity of critical thinking. Based on this requirement, the aim of the course is to provide the student with the critical skills to distinguish between a communication style that proceeds on a rational basis and irrational communication styles that are often deceptive, in order to distinguish between right and wrong.
Course Content Rhetoric, rhetorical traps, argument, valid argument and fallacies, concepts of truth-knowledge-belief-value, media manipulation, rational persuasiveness and non-rational persuasiveness.
Prerequisites HIT 303 PERSUASIVE COMMUNICATION
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Gains the ability to recognize valid and solid arguments and fallacies, and to analyze non-rational persuasive messages.
2Acquires scientific knowledge that can explain the manipulative aspect of communication.
3Sees how fallacies, rhetorical traps, disinformation and fake news appear in the media and communication professions and how they affect society.
4Knows how to conduct a discussion rationally on the basis of argumentation.
