Course Objective
The objective of this course is to advance knowledge for the students on properties of non-ferrous alloys systems related to casting operations.
Course Content
Preparation of mold and core sands of non-ferrous materials, the construction of molds and cores, melting furnaces and operating principles, metal melting, liquid handling and preparation of alloy, chemical composition, microstructure and mechanical properties on the effect of non-ferrous materials sprue, nourishing and cooling design and applications , non-ferrous metal materials, copper and copper alloys, aluminum and its alloys, magnesium and so on. Introduction of metals, mold and core making techniques, and nutritional practices Runner, protective and cleansing for melting materials (Fluxes), Melting furnaces, crucibles and fuels used in melting, melting Alloy account and calculation of losses. errors and their prevention, Art piece, or pieces of goods pouring in foundry and surface operations. Safety precautions to be taken during melting. Cleaning of castings and quality control. Heat treatment of castings determination and application requirements.
