Course Objective The aim of this course is to address the primary causes of climate change in social, economic, and ecological contexts, and to explore their connections with spatial planning and urbanization. By doing so, students will develop an understanding of the anticipated impacts of climate change on urban, rural, and sectoral levels, as well as an appreciation of international agreements, decisions, and policies related to this issue. Additionally, students will examine the effects of climate change on cities and their inhabitants, and evaluate the efficacy of mitigation and adaptation policies from a city and regional planning perspective. Overall, this course aims to cultivate a city planner's perspective that is sensitive to the challenges posed by climate change.
Course Content This course covers a wide range of topics related to climate change, including the factors that contribute to climate patterns, the relationship between climate and cities, the impacts of urbanization on climate patterns, the effects of climate change on urban areas, the global and sectoral impacts of climate change, the policies and negotiations related to mitigating its effects, carbon markets and reduction strategies, policies and strategies aimed at adapting to the changing climate, including the concept of a "resilient city," disaster management, and climate action plans.
