COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective The aim of this course is to know and use of soil mechanics principle in necessary position, to recognize soil mechanics problems and produce an engineering solution, to planning geotechnical and soil investigation studies and perform correctly.
Course Content Introduction to geotechnics and soil mechanics, analysis of soil systems, Including simple soil properties, soil phase relationships and classification, engineering index properties, permeability, natural and effective stress, seepage through soils and flow nets, soil compaction, Laboratory determination of the basic properties of soil, including sieve analysis, atterberg limits, unit weight of soil, water content, permeability and compaction, Principles of soil mechanics and their applications, Including stress and stress distribution in a soil mass, shear strength of soils, settlement and consolidation theory, foundation design and bearing capacity of soils, Slope stability, lateral earth pressure, analysis and design of retaining walls, Laboratory determination of the advanced properties of soils, including confined and unconfined compressive strength, shear strength of soil, consolidation.
