COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The scope of biotechnology, provide information about the history and the biotechnology industry and understand the importance of industrial microorganisms; biotechnology, microbiology, and to promote bioprocesses for; application areas of biotechnology, the methods used are intended to provide the basics of plant and animal biotechnology.
Course Content Introduction to biotechnology, biochemical engineering and the development of biotechnology. And biochemical functions in living cells. Lipids, carbohydrates, amino acids and proteins, nucleic acids, enzymes. Introduction to biocatalysts. Enzyme kinetics. Immobilized enzyme and detention methods. Free and industrial applications of immobilized enzyme. Genetic engineering and its applications; genetically modified organism. Fermentation techniques; sterilization and bioreactors. Basic operations in biotechnology; lysis of the cells, product separation, enrichment, purification, drying. Biotechnological processes; primary and secondary metabolite biosynthesis, production of bread yeast, single cell protein production. Bioenergy types and production methods.
