COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Bachelor's Degree
Course Type Compulsory
Course Objective The objective of the course is to enable the students to learn the welding and casting methods of the materials extensively used in industry and to provide the basic knowledge of engineering materials. In addition, it is to give general information about basic material information and the change of material properties.
Course Content Importance of material science and introduction to widely used materials in industry, Factors affecting material properties, Corrosion and its prevention, Destructive material inspections (Tensile Test, Hardness Measurement, Charpy Notch Impact, Fatigue Test, Creep Test), Non-destructive material tests (Penetrating liquid, magnet powder, ultrasound and x-ray), Heat Treatments (annealing and hardening methods), Types of steels, their brief representation, properties and usage areas, Cast irons and usage areas, Overview of non-ferrous metals (Aluminum, Copper), Plastics overview and usage areas, Traditional Production Methods (Casting, plastic forming, welding, soldering, bonding, powder metallurgy), Unconventional production methods (Additive manufacturing, abrasive jet machining, water jet machining, ultrasonic machining, erosion machining, thermoforming)
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.
Mode of Delivery Face to Face

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Recognize engineering materials commonly used in the industry,
2To comprehend the properties, short representations and usage areas of the materials.
3Students know the basic theories and applications of traditional and modern manufacturing methods.
4Knows how the properties of materials can be changed and with which test they can be determined.
5Ability to choose material depending on the application area.
