COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this lesson is to give the students the knowledge and skills at the application level in teaching sound-based and sentence-based reading and writing to students with special needs.
Course Content Definition and structure of reading and writing; literacy in individuals with special educational needs; approaches to reading preparation programs; readiness to read and support readiness to read; teaching of writing mechanics; evaluation of functional reading-writing and teaching of functional reading-writing: teaching of voice based reading-writing, teaching of sentence-based literacy, syllable-based reading-writing instruction, word-based literacy teaching, adaptations for literacy in the mainstreaming class; specific reading-writing teaching techniques / strategies in groups with different special education needs, scientific-based practices in reading-writing teaching; the process of adapting reading-writing instruction to groups in need of special education.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1 Recognize the Elementary Turkish Lesson Program (I-II).
2Explain the basic approach of the program.
3Apply the constructivist approach in the first literacy lesson.
4Apply sound based sentence method in the first literacy teaching.
5 Plan activities in preparation for the first reading-writing.
6Show how to create sound groups, syllables, words and phrases, and teach them how to learn.
