Course Objective The aim of this course is to enable students to explain color and color mixing theories, color and color difference measurement systems, to recognize the dyestuff classes and dyeing methods used in the leather industry, to explain the basic principles of the skin/hide dyeing process, to interpret the parameters in the skin/hide dyeing process, the effects of other chemicals and processes, and dyeing blemishs.
Course Content Basic information about color, color and color difference measurement, color theories, classification of leather dyestuffs, properties of dyestuffs, basic principles in leather dyeing, dyeing methods on leather, dyeing auxiliaries, process parameters in dyeing, retanning, effects of oiling and drying processes on dyeing, skin/hide dyeing errors.

1To be able to solve dyeing faults and problems.
2To be able to explain color and color difference measurement and evaluation systems.
3To explain the different types of dyes and methods used in dyeing leather.
4To be able to discuss the basic principles of the dyeing process and the effects of process parameters on dyeing.
5To predict the effect of processes following dyeing process, on the leather colour.
