COURSE DESCRIPTION
Course Level Master's Degree
Course Type Elective
Course Objective Solving simple structure characterization problems using combined spectroscopic methods (UV/VIS, IR, NMR and MS). Development of spectrum interpretation ability. Giving information about choosing the necessary method among spectroscopic methods in the structure determination of organic compounds.
Course Content Nature of UV/VIS spectroscopy, quantitative use of UV/VIS spectroscopy, classification of UV absorption bands, important UV/VIS chromophores and their use in structure determination, solvent effect/IR absorption region and their nature, experimental use of IR spectroscopy, important IR chromophores and their use in structure determination. Use/Physics of nuclear spin and NMR device, chemical shift and spin-spin interaction in NMR spectroscopy, analysis of 1H NMR spectra and spectral analysis rules/Coupling and decoupling in 13C NMR spectra, determination of 13C signals by DEPT method, characteristic chemical shifts in 13C NMR spectra/Mass spectrometry: ionization processes, mass spectral data, fragmentation processes, examples of common types of fragmentation processes/Examples of structure determination of organic compounds using combined spectroscopic methods, various applications.
