Course Objective The aim of this course is to provide students with comprehensive information about materials produced with advanced technology, their types, properties, differences from traditional materials and their usage areas.
Course Content Differences from other materials, areas of use. The process of solidification, nucleation and growth in materials and alloys. Atomic arrangements in crystalline solids. Crystal interface and microstructure. Defect in metals and alloys. Formation and growth of second phase particles in the matrix. Phase diagrams. Diffusion in solids, Metallic glasses, Microstructural stability. Optical, magnetic properties and electrical conductivity. Shape memory alloys. Metallic Foams. Rapid prototyping. Advanced industrial alloys.
