Course Objective As an introductory course for Ottoman Turkish, emphasis will be placed on correct reading, Arabic-Persian words and spelling features will be explained, grammar will be placed on a solid foundation and students will be able to read simple printed works at the end of the semester.
Course Content The course is based on Ottoman Turkish, the source language of Ottoman history. For this purpose, students are given printed and written texts written in Ottoman Turkish. These texts are read, evaluated and understood. Arabic and Persian grammar rules used in Ottoman Turkish are taught. Ottoman publications, archival documents and inscriptions related to cultural assets that need to be protected, Ottoman spelling and grammar for reading and understanding.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Defines the alphabet and explains the development of the alphabet.
2Recalls the origin of the Arabic alphabet and the history of its use by the Turks.
3Recognizes the letters and characters in the Ottoman Turkish alphabet, the spelling of these letters in the beginning, middle and end, the letters that combine and do not combine.
4Distinguishes Arabic, Persian and Turkish letters in the Ottoman alphabet.
5Examines the spelling of vowels in Ottoman Turkish.
6Apply the spelling of personal and sign pronouns and their taking of case suffixes on texts.
7Discusses the suitability of the Arabic alphabet to the sound order of Turkish.
8Associates the texts written in today's alphabet with the Ottoman Turkish alphabet by reading the printed texts.
