Course Objective To provide general information about the cultivation of horticultural crops. It is aimed that students will be able to recognise the horticultural crops grown in the world and in Turkey, to know the ecological requirements, propagation and cultivation of important horticultural crops for our country.
Course Content Definition and classification of horticultural crops, The place of horticultural crops in the national economy, Biological characteristics of horticultural crops, Ecological requirements of horticultural crops, Physiology of horticultural crops, Propagation of horticultural crops: Generative propagation, Propagation of horticultural crops: Vegetative propagation, Propagation of horticultural crops: Vegetative propagation, Fruit garden plant, Vineyard plant, Vegetable garden plant, Vegetable garden plant, Vegetable cultivation in open and under cover, Annual maintenance operations in horticultural crops, Annual maintenance operations in horticultural crops, Harvesting, preservation and preparation of horticultural crops for the market will be explained.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1To have knowledge about the recognition and importance of horticultural crops.
2To learn the ecological factors required for cultivation and to recognise horticultural crops according to regions.
3To learn biological and physiological principles.
4To get information about general production techniques and to learn how to propagate fruit and vegetable species.
5To learn cultural practices used during production and to be able to apply them according to cultivation periods.
6To learn the maturity criteria and harvesting of products and to be able to decide on harvest times.
7To have knowledge about the preservation methods of products and their applicability on product basis.
