The Department of Philosophy attracts over a hundred undergraduate majors each year. To achieve a full representation, we offer a wide variety of courses in core areas of philosophy, especially in the history of philosophy, ethics, metaphysics and epistemology. To that end, our department tries to introduce the student to the basic philosophical issues and positions in sufficient depth

In offering a wide variety of philosophy courses, we aim to introduce the student to philosophical thinking. The fact that skills like thinking clearly and reasoning critically are all enhanced by taking philosophy courses, no student of our department graduates without having picked up such skills.
