Course Objective
To introduce the morphological structures of plants such as Sage, Rosemary, black cumin, Basil, Nettle, Thyme, Rosehip, Lavender, Mint, Cumin, Coriander, Fennel, Fenugreek, and lemon balm, to have information about their cultivation and to learn basic features such as breeding. Agricultural and industrial application areas of medicinal and aromatic plants are taught.
Course Content
Historical development of studies on medicinal and aromatic plants, Importance and grouping of medicinal and aromatic plants, Status of medicinal and aromatic plants in Turkey and the world, Ecological demands of medicinal and aromatic plants, Basic principles in the culture of medicinal and aromatic plants, Drying and storage of medicinal and aromatic plants. Introduction of drugs, Secondary plant substances and their variability, Essential oils and their properties, Importance of some plants (anethum, coriander, fennel, anise) included in the Apiaceae family, herbal properties, cultivation techniques and usage areas, some plants (chamomile, pyrethrum) included in the Asteraceae family. importance, herbal properties, cultivation techniques and usage areas, importance of some plants (mint, thyme) included in the Lamiaceae family, herbal properties, cultivation techniques and areas of use, sage plant belonging to the Lamiaceae family and some important medicinal and aromatic plants (black cumin) introduction and cultivation techniques will be explained.
