Course Objective To teach basic soil knowledge, the role of soil in the cultivation of field crops, plant nutrition and fertilization.
Course Content The history of plant nutrition and studies carried out to date, the amounts of plant nutrients in plants and their general functions in plants, the classification of essential nutrients for plant growth, the factors affecting the yield potential of plants and plant nutrient pools in the soil, clay minerals and sources of negative charge in organic matter, Uptake and transport of plant nutrients, Root development and nutrient absorption in plants. Active and passive transport modes, Soil acidity and alkalinity. Investigation of the relationship between plant nutrients and soil pH, Soil organic matter and nutrient cycle. C/N ratio, Forms, functions and fractions of nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium forms, cycles, availability and transport, Forms, transformations, availability and transport of calcium, magnesium and sulfur, Functions of microelements in plants, chemical forms, transformations in soil and uptake by plants the place, importance and classification of fertilizers in agricultural activities. Reactions of chemical fertilizers in soil, Determination of fertilizer need and application methods of fertilizers. Preparation and application methods of nutrient solutions will be explained.
