Course Objective The aim of this course is to give information about pomology of fruit trees. Economic importance; botanical classification, ecological requirements, biology and physiology, flower bud formation and fertilization biology, generative and vegetative propagation, orchard management of fruit trees. Harvest and post harvest treatments.
Course Content Classification, marketing and economic considerations, fruit species and genetic diversity in Turkey, ecological requirements, flower bud initiation and development, bud and spur/shoot structure, fertilization biology, parthenocarpy, apomixis, flower and fruit drops, fruit thinning, alternate bearing, dormancy in bud and seed, plant growth regulators, propagation and nursery plant production, orchard plantation, annual management processes, cultural, several practical and technical and practical applications, nutrition of fruit tree, functions of the roots and water balance, carbon assimilation (photosynthesis), training and pruning, harvest, crop standardization, packaging, storage and marketing in fruit species.
