Course Objective In this course, students will examine the concepts, theories and techniques related to discourse analysis and learn to adapt these concepts and theories they have learned to English teaching activities and materials as a foreign language. The aim of this course is to make students aware of the differences between various genres, taking into account the internal structure, target and reader elements in written and oral texts, to gain awareness about interdisciplinary and intercultural differences and to have the competence to use different methods, techniques and evaluation methods in English teaching by considering these differences.
Course Content In this course, students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on discourse analysis. They reinforce this theoretical knowledge by reading important research studies in the literature. They develop their practical knowledge with the help of micro teaching and receive feedback at the end of their presentations. In addition, the students understand the meaning, connotation and effects of literary and non-literary written and oral texts based on language usage characteristics. They comprehend the relationship between form, language usage properties and content in various texts, and compare literary and non-literary texts.
