997 Preparatory Class

GENERAL INFORMATION
Our college has started its education in the 2007-2008 academic year. The aim of our college is to educate the students of undergraduate who registered into the foreign language preparatory classes and the ones who took compulsory English course in different vocatioanl technical schools and faculties with high standards, to equip them with the necessary language knowledge and skills in the academic and business life, to contribute to the lifelong learning process by guiding our students to learn how to access the information they need, and to help them to grow up into adherent of Ataturk’s policy, scientifically thinking, creative, concerned with the problems of the country, and productive individuals.

Objective
The aim of the undergraduate preparatory class is to a)improve their basic language knowledge and skills up to B1+ level b)be able to understand and digest the things they read and hear in their own field of study, c)Express themselves in written and spoken language, d)Sophisticate them with the efficiency of achieving the foreign language communication needed in the business and social life, e)Use technology effectively, and improve the skills of inquiring, researching, and effective communication, f)Develop awareness towards the historical development of science, scientific thinking movements and the reflection of these movements on different areas through the language the program they are enrolled into asks for.


Admission Requirements
To graduate from high school and to be placed by OSYM into a department that has complusory/elective preparatory class.

Graduation Requirements
The average of quiz, midterm, assignment and final exam results must be at least 70. Student who meet this requirement is considered successful and is entitled to receive the certificate.

Career Opportunties
Students who successfully complete the preparatory program will be accepted successful in areas that listed in programme qualifications and are employed in these areas with national valid certificate.

TEACHING & LEARNING METHODS

LecturingLecturing is one of the methods that come first, where the teacher is in the center. It is a method where the teacher actively describes topics and the students are passive listeners. With this method, lesson proceeds in the form of report, description and explanation.
DebateDepending on the situation, debate is a tool that allows all students, or a specific portion of the class to participate in the lesson. In this method, members of the group discuss a topic by addressing the various points of view and discuss alternative opinions about problem-solving.
DemonstrationIn this method the teacher demonstrates, an experiment, test, in front of the class. And then assists students to do so too. Students learn not only by just by looking and watching, but also by taking part and participating. This method is usually applied when teaching skills.
