Course Objective Understand the contacts between Turkish and other languages, the changes it had and the positive or negative effects of the them; comprehend the logic of development and changes in natural structure of the language.
Course Content The course aims at investigating the change process of the Turkish language from the time of its existence to the present. Main stages of the development will be examined and the internal and external effects of these stages will be outlined and studied. This will provide the students with a broader perspective on Turkish and give them the idea to trace how the language changed throughout ages. Also, it will study Turkish with respect to neighboring/contact languages illustrating mutual borrowings. Finally after obtaining enough knowledge about the foreign influence on Turkish, the purification period will be focused on.
