Course Objective This course aims to familiarize students with why and how to use literary texts in English language teaching classes. Focusing on the nature of literary discourse (including discourse structure and language use in literary texts), it specifically centers around the common problems encountered in literature classes, the potential contributions of literature to EFL learners, the criteria for text selection, and different methods and activities that can be utilized enabling students to interpret and interact with literary texts and with each other.
Course Content In this course students become conversant with why and how to use literary texts in English language teaching classes. Focusing on the nature of literary discourse (including discourse structure and language use in literary texts), it specifically centers around the common problems encountered in literature classes, the potential contributions of literature to EFL learners, the criteria for text selection, and different methods and activities that can be utilized enabling students to interpret and interact with literary texts and with each other.
