COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of the psycholinguistics course, which brings together the fields of language and cognitive psychology, is to investigate the cognitive aspects of language acquisition, second language learning, and linguistic skills like speaking and writing. Another aim of this interdisciplinary course is to gain knowledge about the subfields of psycholinguistics. In addition, the aim is to increase awareness into current research studies and the methodology used in the field.
Course Content The content of the course comprises the biological underpinnings of language learning (the relationship between the brain and language), speech perception, mental lexicon, word and sentence processing and production, speech processing and production, working memory, and language disorders. In addition, the experimental and behavioral research methods commonly used in the field (e.g., self-paced reading, eye tracking, masked priming, electrophysiological monitoring) will be explored.
