Course Objective	To provide theoretical background and application principles for design and analysis of slopes and retaining structures which interact with soil.
Course Content	Excavations, support systems; Slope analysis; Retaining structures, earth pressures; Rigid and flexible support systems, types, construction methods, load effects, desing, problems in construction stages; Mechanics and construction of Reinforced Earth; Calculation of steel and shotcrete retaining structures; Case studies; Desin of large scale structures. .

Corequisite	No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

1	Determines lateral soil pressures and design retaining structures accordingly.
2	Performs slope stability analysis of soils and design slopes.
3	Evaluates the outputs of laboratory and field experiments, use them in design and prepares soil investigation reports.
4	Designs braced shallow and deep excavations.
5	Design retaining walls.
6	Prepares projects and reports individually and as a group.
