Course Objective	The purpose of this course is to study the backgrounds of modern literary criticism from the ancient to the 18th century and analyse the literary texts of English and American literature from the perspective of theoretical approaches that base the modern literary criticism.
Course Content	The historical, philosophical, political and social relations of the backgrounds of modern literary criticism will be analysed and examples of literary texts selected from English and American literatures will be analysed according to those backgrounds comparatively.
Prerequisites	No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite	No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

1	The students understand the backgrounds of modern literary criticism and analyse the selected literary works from the perspective of those theories.
2	They study examples of literary texts selected from English and American literatures.
3	They identify the differences between literary and critical theories and evaluate the texts from that perspective.
4	They read and criticise poetry from the perspective of the backgrounds of modern literary criticism.
5	They write articles on the study of literary criticism.
6	They apply theories of criticism in poetry, novel and short story analyses.
