COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective	This course aims to present the history of theatre and by reading selected works from the beginning to present how the form, function and style have changed. In addition to an historical look on American theatre, it is aimed at reading classical works and analyse the relationship between the text of the play and the theatrical performance to provide a basis for future studies. It is anticipated for students to evaluate an American play in national, cultural and historical contexts. Due to the fact that this course contains a methodological element, the focus point is not only reading but also why or how they read. Rather than automatic reading, conscious reading is promoted. Selected works and analysis regarding other sources comprise the content of the course.
Course Content	Definition theatre, theatrical terms and concepts, methodology in theatrical analysis, the use theatrical terms, literary research technique.
