COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of the course is to provide students with the competence of developing quantitative and qualitative research design in interpretative approach, to carry out research and to report it. Moreover the students will comprehend the quantitative and qualitative research strategies and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data.
Course Content 1.General characteristics of descriptive and interpretative approach 2. Qualitative and quantitative research design in descriptive and interpretative approach 3. The comparision of the quantitative and qualitative research methods in terms of similarities and differenceses, and mixmethod 4. Ethical and practical problems 5. Description, Understanding and interpreting 6. Process of quantitative and qualitative research design 7. Quantitative and qualitative research strategies: Survey, Field study, focus group, case study, content analyses, life story, narrative analyse, discourse analyse etc. 8. Analysis of qualitative and quantitative data 9. To prepare a project related to research topic

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1The students who succeeded in this course: will be able to understand the general characteristics of descriptive and interpretative approach in social sciences
2The students will be able to comprehend the basic framework of developing Quantitative and qualitative research design.
3The students will analyse a social problem using Quantitative and qualitative research
4The students will evaluate the Quantitative and qualitative data that is gathered in field and analyse it.
5The students will be able to do a written and/or oral presention of the research results
6The students will be able to comprehend and interpret the social problems through descriptive and interpretative approach, and will be able to suggest alternative solutions.
7The students will be aware of the ethical principles related to method and profession in applying the Quantitative and qualitative research method and complies with these principles.
8The students will be aware of the cultural differences while carrying out Quantitative and qualitative research methods, and will take into account the cultural differences during research.
