Course Objective The course has the objective of the analysis of those key topics; characteristics of the term that local administrations in Turkey come to the scene, local administration tradition which is transformed from Tanzimat Period to Republic of Turkey, improvements and changes at the local administrative field that have made after the establishment of Turkish Republic, the effects of industrialization and urbanization processes which had been started at 1960s and accelerated in 1970s on local administrations, local administration tradition at the term until 1980s, legal resolutions that have prepared in 1990s and the efforts in strengthening local governments, local governments’ laws in 2000s and their results on local administrative system; and their innovational effects, a general analysis of Turkey’s local administrative system problems in terms of globalization, decentralization and European integration.
Course Content Local government history in Turkey, special provincial administrations, municipalities, villages as local government units, greater / metropolitan municipalities, local government unions, politics in local governments, finance in local governments
