Course Objective Teach the importance of packaging, discuss the various packaging materials, teach designing of packaging and set the relationship between packaging and marketing, teach packaging of agri-based food products, introduce the agri-based foods that modified atmosphere packaged and stored under controlled atmosphere and practical applications.
Course Content Food packaging materials: kinds of paper, plastic and glass and properties. Food packaging machinery and practical applications. Principals of modified atmosphere packaging and industrial applications.
Prerequisites No the prerequisite of lesson.
Corequisite No the corequisite of lesson.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
321. To learn the importance of packaging materials for food producers and consumers 2. To learn the relationship between protection functions of packaging materials and food spoilage. 3. To have information about raw materials of packaging materials and some processing steps of these raw materials. 4. To learn general properties of glass, paper, metal and plastic packaging materials and to learn the optimum materials that used for food packaging. 5. To have information about the properties and processing of multi-layer packaging materials. 6. To learn the importance and the methods of aseptic packaging. 7. To learn the importance of packaging with modified atmosphere and under controlled atmosphere conditions at cold storage. 8. To have information about migration and its importance. 9. To have information about bar cod systems. 10. To have ability of suggesting proper packaging materials for foods. 11. Have knowledge on symbols present on food packaging materials.
