Course Objective To teach the basic principles of biotechnological methods and techniques and their application in agricultural production
Course Content significance and applications of biotechnology. Plant tissue and organ culture and their applications in plant production. Plant cell and protoplast culture, somaclonal variation, somatic hybridization and protoplast fusion and their application. Meristem culture and disease free plant production. Molecular laboratory techniques and molecular markers. Application of molecular techniques for detection identification and taxonomy of plant, plant, pathogens and pests. Genetic engineering and gene transfer methods into plant, microorganisms and insects and their application in plant protection. Development of transgenic plants and their utilization for plant protection. Development and use of transgenic insects. Benefits and risks of transgenic plants for agricultural production and the environment
