COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Level	Bachelor's Degree
Course Type	Compulsory
Course Objective	It aims to develop students’ overall knowledge of English language and literature and thus improving their reading-understanding and communication skills on literary texts as well as helping them develop their English language skills. The course also aims at providing students with the basic knowledge of History of English literature, literary periods, literary movements, pioneer authors and their master pieces in addition to basic literary terms and devices along with their usages in the authentic materials.
Course Content	Cultural history of English literature, American Literature and books that are originally written in English; basic terms and techniques used in text analysis; primary text types; important literary movements and periods; Literary genres as poem, drama, novel and short stories special to different literary periods and their content and style; Contribution of literature to our daily life perceptions; critical analysis and appreciation of literary texts and literary devices.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

1	Students get familiar with the transition process from oral literature to written literature of British Literature along with the historical, geographical and cultural effects of the periods
2	Students are able know and explain basic literary terms and movements of English literature
3	Students have information and idea they can comment on some certain literary genres and authors of the literary periods of English literature.
4	Students have information about how to read and analyze a literary text and, therefore, they can develop a critical view.
5	They find opportunity to recognize and evaluate relations between cultural differences and English literature, and so they develop consciousness to be an equipped English teacher through making comparisons between culture and the literary texts.
6	Through in-class activities as text analysis and different language activities they find opportunity to use and develop all four language skills and so they can further their expression skills on various topics
