COURSE DESCRIPTION

Course Objective The aim of this course is to enable students to acquire basic English communication skills and to express themselves both verbally and in writing on topics they are likely to encounter in daily life. Students will gain the ability to communicate at a basic level, obtain and give information, share personal information, and engage in basic social interactions using the core vocabulary and grammatical structures of the English language.
Course Content The course is structured around themes and grammatical structures designed to help students use English functionally, focusing on topics from daily life. The main themes and content covered throughout the term are as follows: - Greetings, introductions, classroom language, self-introduction, countries and nationalities, the alphabet, colors, numbers, and WH- questions. - Identifying everyday objects and expressing ownership using possessive structures. - Talking about travel and tourist destinations, expressing wishes, and engaging in simple dialogues. - Shopping expressions, talking about possibilities, and prepositions used in giving directions. - Daily routines, habits, introducing professions, and talking about people's jobs. - Time expressions, asking for the time, adverbs of time, and asking for information using prepositions of place and direction. - Introducing family members and describing them using personality adjectives. - Talking about parts of the house, furniture, and belongings; using prepositions of place and direction. - Making arrangements, and using expressions for scheduling at specific times or places. - Food and drinks, countable and uncountable nouns, and discussing eating habits using quantifiers. - Ordering food at a restaurant, reading menus, and using vocabulary and expressions related to restaurants. - The past tense, talking about past events, and sharing childhood memories. Each week, vocabulary, grammar, and communicative functions relevant to the theme are presented together to help students develop their language skills in an integrated manner.

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1introduce themselves and give simple information about their name, age, nationality, profession, and place of residence.
2recognize daily objects and use expressions indicating possession (have got/has got).
3engage in basic interactions such as shopping and asking about prices, and use expressions for asking about quantities and expressing wishes.
4give directions and explain the location of objects and places using prepositions of place (in, on, under, next to, etc.).
5express their daily routines and habits using simple present tense structures.
6recognize professions and ask and answer questions about people’s jobs.
7describe their daily plans and activities using time expressions (hour, day, date).
8describe family members and provide information about their close environment using personality adjectives.
9recognize and talk about the house and household items, and discuss parts of the house.
10use basic food and drink vocabulary, and make simple orders in a restaurant setting.
11distinguish between countable and uncountable nouns and use expressions of quantity (some, any, a lot of, etc.).
12organize meetings and activities using planning expressions (Let’s, How about, What about…?).
13narrate past events using simple past tense (was/were, past simple).
14understand simple reading passages, identify basic information, and provide brief written/oral responses.
15understand basic listening materials, follow instructions, and extract necessary information.
16participate in short dialogues related to daily life, ask questions, and provide answers.
