PHYSICS DEPARTMENT

General Information

Our department was established in 1992 under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, and started to admit students to the undergraduate program in 1994, the graduate program in 1995, and the PhD program in 2008. Physics Programme offers both theoretical and application-specific courses in various specialized options like Atomic and Molecular Physics, Solid State Physics, Nuclear Physics, High Energy and Plasma Physics, Mathematical Physics and General Physics. A total of 20 academic staff, including 7 Professors, 4 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, 3 Lecturers, 1 Scientific Technical Person and 4 Research Assistants, work in our Department. Practical courses on General Physics-I, General Physics-II, Electricity and Electronics, Optics, Magnetism, and Atomic and Nuclear Physics are given in 3 student laboratories. There are 8 research laboratories in the Department of Physics: Materials Physics Simulation Laboratory, Computational Physics Laboratory, Bulk Material Production and Characterization Laboratories, Thin Film Production and Electrical Characterization Laboratories and Single Crystal Preparation Laboratory.

Objective

A graduate, with MSc or PhD Degree in the Pyhsics Programme, has an improved knowledge in one of the selected specialisations (Atomic and Molecular Physics, Solid State Physics, Nuclear Physics, High Energy and Plasma Physics, Mathematical Physics and General Physics). The graduate’s ability to approach challenging real life problems in a scientific perspective is built up by means of conducting scientific resarch, with consist of collecting available information in the literature, performing necessary observations, analyzing and synthesizing the collected information and producing a scientific written document.
