Course Objective The course aims to introduce students to the fundamental concepts of macroeconomics to analyze the effects of monetary and fiscal policy on macroeconomic variables such as inflation, interest rate, unemployment , investment, output, trade balance etc. and to provide a way of understanding how the economy as a whole works.
Course Content The course explains the determinants of gross domestic income, inflation, unemployment, recessions and expansion, interest rate, trade balance, exchange rate. It also examines alternative views regarding the effectiveness of monetary and fiscal policy on the economy in the short and long run

COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES
1Analyze to basic principles of macroeconomics.
2Explain relationships among macroeconomic variables such as gross domestic product, unemployment, inflation, recession and expansion, budget deficit, interest rate, export and import, trade balance
3Use the concepts of macroeconomics to understand and analyze the effect of a change in a macroeconomic variable on the others.
4Explain the effects monetary and fiscal policy in the short and long run on the macroeconomic variables
5Evaluate and foresee the outcome of monetary and fiscal policy on the macroeconomic variables
6Explain the roles of banking system and central banks in the economy
7Express how the interest rate is determined and changed in the economy and predict the effects of a change in interest rate on the macroeconomic variables.
8Use an aggregate demand and aggregate supply model to interpret the effect of economic shocks on inflation and output.
